California 2008

The week before school started we were able to go on vacation to California. We ended up driving over 900 miles (despite the fact that we flew to California) and saw a good portion of central California.
Adam and I flew in to Sacramento and the same afternoon left for San Francisco. As we neared the city we saw an enormous bridge "wow, the Golden Gate Bridge," we thought and I snapped picture after picture. Shortly thereafter we realized it wasn't the Golden Gate but it was the very impressive Bay Bridge. It was very foggy so we didn't get to see the GG Bridge very well but I took a picture anyway.

The whole trip was not planned out as well as it should have been and it turned out to be a great learning experience! We drove until we felt like stopping, we stayed wherever was cheapest, and we made a lot of u-turns.
After we had spent a few hours driving around the SF area, getting lost and receiving a toll violation we decided to move on. We ended up in Gilroy, California, a city known for its onion farms. As you approach the city you can actually smell the onions- it smells great!
We drove along the coast almost the whole way to Gilroy. We found a hostel with a lighthouse on the way that was right on the coast. It was full, but we enjoyed the scenery and got a picture or two.

The next day we drove to Monterey Bay. The weather was a lot cooler than we had expected, but it turned out great. We walked around the famous Cannery Row- there are a lot of shops and restaurants and fun things to do. We met Kyle & Noelle in Monterey and we all went to Bubba Gumps for dinner. We also went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and rented tandem bikes to ride along the coast.
After we left Monterey we headed to Yosemite National Park to stay for a couple of nights. We stayed in a bunkhouse cabin that had a queen bed and a bunkbed set. The bathroom/ shower was shared between all of the campers. It was a fun experience!

Overall we had a great trip but we were ready to come home at the end of the week.
